The Institute prides itself on offering a world leading research environment in applied psychology and related areas. Its research productivity is assessed nationally through the UK government’s Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). The latest assessment was decided in 2008.

The RAE focused on many differtent aspects of research producitivy and excellence. Amongs these were the quality of the Institute’s publications, its research income (research awards and contracts) and the esteem in which its staff are held with respect to their research and their contribution to national and international research management.
