PROFESSOR AMANDA GRIFFITHS
Amanda Griffiths has been invited by the Department of Primary Health Care at the University of Oxford to join the Menopause Advisory Panel on the Database of Personal Experiences of Health and Illness (DIPEx) project. The DIPEx collections aim to bring qualitative health research findings to medical audiences and the public, and to bridge the different views, interests, and perspectives of these distinct audiences. There is considerable interest in promoting public understanding of science – this parallel enterprise also aims to further science’s understanding of the public. Each module (topics include cancer, autism, mental health, AIDS, diabetes, chronic pain, dying) is developed under the supervision of researchers and an invited panel of experts, and is made freely available over the internet (www.healthtalkonline.org). Doctors and patients both recognise some aspects of diseases as important, but frequently find them too uncomfortable to discuss. The on-line modules aim to provide a rich information resource for people affected by diseases and for those who look after them.
