________________________________

The Institute offers Masters courses in key areas of professional psychology and in closely related disciplines. These can be taken either full time or part time. Part time study is encouraged and is supported by web based learning materials. Those studying part time can organise their study so that it they only need to be on campus for a day and half each week for the first two semesters of each year while working largely away from campus throughout the third semester.

Work, Health, Safety & Psychology:

Three courses are offered in occupational health and in health and safety management. These are the Masters in Workplace Health  and in Occupational Health Psychology (in Nottingham) and in Health & Safety Leadership (at UNMC).

The MSc Workplace Health has been designed primarily as a post qualification or otherwise specialist course for those currently working in areas related to health and safety consultancy, management and policy where there is a need to ‘put the health into health and safety’ and, in doing so, address contemporary challenges. The course has been recognised by a wide variety of professional bodies as a postgraduate qualification. These include the GB Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, and the British Safety Council.

The Psychology of Work:

The MSc Occupational Health Psychology has been designed for those who wish to study the contribution of applied psychology to occupational health at post graduate or post qualification level.  The specialist information offered by this course should prepare successful students for careers in occupational health education, research and management, workplace health promotion, and consultancy in applied psychology and related areas. The course is listed by the European Academy of Occupational Health Psychology, by the US Society for Occupational Health Psychology and by the US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Scholarships are offered by the British safety Council for this course.

The Psychology of Health:

Opportunities also exist on both the Institute’s health and work related courses. For those eligible to take a course accredited by the British Psychological Society, towards professional recognition in the UK, the Institute offers a Masters in Health Psychology and a Masters in Occupational Psychology. For those who are not eligible for these courses or whose interests lie elsewhere, there are excellent alternatives in our Masters in Health Psychology & Promotion and in Rehabilitation Psychology or in Management Psychology or Work & Organisational Psychology. The Masters in Management Psychology is available both in Nottingham and at UNMC. The other courses mentioned are all available in Nottingham.

Clinical Psychology:

The Institute also offers postgraduate and post qualification Masters courses in clinical and applied neuropsychology and a Masters course in Psychological Research Methods along with research degrees to MPhil and PhD. Its programme in clinical psychology also includes a taught professional doctorate accredited by the British Psychological Society and funded by the Trent SHA. Many of the Institute’s courses and modules are eligible to be taken through the SHA’s programme of ‘Learning Beyond Registration’ (LBR).

MALAYSIA:

In UNMC the Institute offers a joint undergraduate degree in Applied Psychology & Management Studies with the Nottingham University Business School (NUBS).

NEW COURSES:

The Institute is developing a new professional doctorate in Forensic Psychology with the Institute of Mental health and it is hoped that this programme will be available for 2010.

Details of all these courses are available on the Institute’s website and further information can then be obtained through the Course Directors or the Director of Education, Professor Kevin Browne or from the Institute’s Taught Course Administrator, Hannah Collinge at: Hannah.collinger@nottingham.ac.uk.

Applications from suitably qualified students will be considered on all courses until the course start date but obviously subject to the availability of places.

Again, there are scholarships available for students on many of these courses: so please ask.
